Services and history
The Ward 8 Health Council was created as a result of Councilmember Marion Barry effort to ensure that the work to address health and wellness, education and workforce development continued following his censure. The monthly meetings continue after its formation almost 15 years ago and has evolved into the premiere organization for advocacy, community engagement and policy discussions on healthcare needs and quality of life outcomes for Ward 8 residents and community. The health council has four focus areas, the Black maternal health crisis, workforce development, senior quality of life and behavioral / mental health.
The W8HC convenes monthly and amasses a diverse attendance of healthcare stakeholders.
